Villaceran’s display includes mixed-media pieces, epoxy-on-dining utensils, and acrylic on canvas. Each artwork draws deeply from his cherished childhood memories of life in Baod. The exhibition title, Waves, derives from the Bisaya word balud, which connects directly to his hometown, once called Baludan, then Baud, and now officially Barangay Baod.

“I’ve experienced vivid visual episodes during my childhood—images that weren’t fixed, but moving,” says Villaceran. “Looking at things with my naked eye is different from how they’re recorded in my memory. Waves are not just waves; they were home. Home of my imagination.”

In addition to being a visual artist, Arnel Villaceran is a Licensed Professional Teacher and serves as Layout Artist and Curatorial Staff at The Negros Museum. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Advertising Arts from La Consolacion College Bacolod’s School of Architecture, Fine Arts, and Interior Design. In 2018, he received the Perfecto E. Marazonia Award. He has participated in group exhibitions across Negros Occidental and presented his first solo show, Himulak, at Gallerie G in 2023. Villaceran is also involved with the Negros Cultural Foundation Inc., The Performance Laboratory Inc., the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, and the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

The event’s opening was graced by the presence of the media, prominent figures from Bacolod’s art community, and numerous fellow artists. Following this, the ribbon-cutting ceremony was spearheaded by the artist, alongside Lyn Gamboa, President of Negros Cultural Foundation Inc., and Ms. Mila Chiu, the organization’s Secretary.

Archie Javellana, Rooms Division Manager at Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod and one of the guests of honor, delivered closing remarks underscoring the hotel’s commitment to supporting local art. He described the exhibit as “a portal to that memory… fragments of time that may one day become treasured memories,” and expressed how privileged his team feels to offer not only venues for celebrations but also spaces for storytelling and art inspiration.

The exhibition runs until September 30, 2025. Artworks are available for sale and interested parties may inquire at the Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod front desk. An online catalogue is available via QR code in the gallery.
